Twenty domains, from ready-to-wear to real estate, to tourism are available, allowing you to specify even more your research.
I've read many articles and white papers on keywords that show you what the keywords are for, how to search for them, but I have not seen much about the complete process of word analysis. key chain with the aim to optimize SEO .
By "process", I mean, from research keywords to the definition of the architecture of the site in the case of a website creation .
Search the right keywords
1- Brainstorming on the activity
If the search for keywords concerns a company that performs several activities, it is better to work on one activity then another to avoid dispersal, which happens very quickly in the brainstorming.
The goal of brainstorming is to throw as many ideas as possible around a central theme, in our case, the activity of the company. It is also possible to want to position yourself other than on activities but on topics such as sports, food or entertainment, and thus generate more traffic on its website .
In my example, I chose the development of our consulting activity in SEO (SEO) with SMEs, associations and communities.

2- The different types of key word
In a web page, we find different types of keywords that can be broken down into 3 categories:
Head keywords
Body keywords
Long tail keywords (long tail)
Head keywords: It's usually a single word with a volume and a very important competition (eg SEO, SEO). Because these are not precise words, they are keywords that do not have a very good conversion rate.
Body keywords: It is generally 2 to 3 words with a volume of at least 2,000 searches per month but which are more accurate than Head keywords (eg SEO analysis, SEO). These keywords are easier to position than the Head keywords but remains in some markets still very competitive.
Long-tail keywords: It is generally 4 words and more with a low volume of searches but which are very specific to a request (ex: SEO agency Nantes , company to optimize natural SEO Nantes ). These keywords do not have much research taken individually but if we add them up they represent the most important part of the research on the internet.
3- Search the keywords
The most popular keyword search tool is Google's keyword planner (Google Keyword Planner). To access it, you must go to Google Adwords and create an account if you have not already done so.
Click Tools -> Keyword Planner
Click on "Search for new keywords using an expression, website or category" .
You are then asked to fill in some fields (can be modified after) including:
Your product or services: "SEO advice"
Your landing page: http://www.hdb-technology.com/referencing
Your product category: Take a given in the list only if it is consistent with your activity. In my case, I left the field empty because there is no activity directly related to the SEO .
Targeting: You can target one or more countries which will change the search volume and keywords. Then you can also choose the language or languages of your choice.
The period: leaving the monthly search volume averaged over the last 12 months is generally appropriate for most businesses.
Filters: You can also filter the keywords by minimum volume, only those that contain terms or vice versa ...
Search new keywords to optimize SEO
By pressing "Get ideas" you find yourself on the page below where you will find two tabs "Ad Group Ideas " and "Keyword Ideas" . For SEO , you have to click on the second tab.
SEO consulting results with Google Keyword Planner Tool
Here is the result of the data related to your research. You find the keyword you typed in the "product and service" field first with the associated search volume . Below, Google Keyword Planner Tool offers keywords associated with the field entered . In case you do not define product categories as in our example, you will usually get more data that is not related to your activity and you will have to delete them in the database.
Keyword search volume
You must then download this data by clicking on "Download" . This will get you the keywords with their search volume and the competition on Google Adwords for each keyword.
Do not bother for the moment to delete data that does not seem consistent to you because you have to repeat this exercise at least on all the sub-activities that you found during your brainstorming.
It is common to get several thousand lines in your Excel file by adding all the searches for an activity and its sub-activities.
If you want more keywords, there are a few solutions that can help you:
Type the name of the activity + forum. The objective is to visit several forums on the subject in question and to list the different sections of the forum and the associated sub-divisions to obtain other keywords
Also check on Wikipedia the different chapters associated with the main keyword

Filter keywords
Now you have to get a database of several thousand lines. To facilitate processing, you must first delete the duplicate rows by going to the "Data" tab and then clicking "Remove Duplicates" via Excel after selecting the 3 columns .
If you have done several searches via Google Keyword Planner Tool , the number of rows has to be reduced considerably.

The most painful work will begin !! You must now delete the lines that are not in line with your activity.
If you pay a bit of attention to the search volume you should have noticed that there is no result like 128 search / month. Why? Just because Google returns rounded search volumes closer to the actual search volume . In addition, Google Keyword Planner Tool also has another flaw is that it returns you the keywords for an exact keyword , which uncomplicated keyword analysis . Indeed, Google will include as identical for example two keywords including 1 having a misspelling . Whereas with Google Keyword Planner Tool you find two distinct linesin database (2 distinct keywords). This can have a great influence in the analyzes. So, if you want to know more and you understand English, I suggest you go to the excellent Moz blog SEO .
Analyze the difficulty of the keywords
We now have a database with all the keywords we have selected ( most relevant keywords ). The goal of SEO is to get the best position in Google, Bing, Yahoo search results ...
But be realistic !! Being front page on highly competitive keywords will take you many years and a lot of work. Otherwise, you have the solution to know the difficulty to position yourself on the keywords that you have listed to make a choice of reason between:
* the competition of the keyword , * the adequacy between the query of the surfer and the content of your web page, * the monthly search engine search volume .
To be able to choose the keywords to put forward on your web site, the most adapted tool is "Keyword Difficulty" of Moz.
Let's take a look at the list of keywords we have defined previously. For the moment, we have 3 columns:
The key word
The number of searches / month averaged over the year
The competition . In fact, the "competition" column is the competition for this keyword on Adwords which is Google's paid search engine. We can leave this column that will serve us if we want to do Adwords campaigns. Beware the competition between paid SEO and SEO can be diametrically opposed .
We can then copy 20 by 20 (Moz restriction) the keywords in our Excel file and paste them on Keyword Difficulty from Moz. Indeed, there are some restrictions in terms of volume on Moz, including the maximum search for the number of keywords that is 400 keywords / day with my subscription.
After about ten seconds, it returns you for the 20 recorded key words, their competition in percentage . The more you be close to 0% , the more it will be easy to place you on the front page and you're closer to 1 over is difficult . For a website launch, avoid keywords with a difficulty greater than 30% to not find yourself in the second page or more.
Note: It is also possible with Moz to sort your keywords by level of difficulty. If you encounter the case where keywords are very close in terms of volume and competition , you can ask Moz for a thorough analysis of a keyword . You get a detailed report , so you can see your future competitors on the keyword in question.
In-depth keyword analysis
After adding all keywords from your database to the Keyword Difficulty Analysis Tool , you can now download and match them to your Excel list.
Analyze the relevance of keywords
You now have the 3 key information to choose what will be your main keyword for your web page.
To facilitate decision making , I integrate a conditional formatting in Excel which allows me to quickly analyze the keywords.
Now I just have to highlight the lines (from 1 to 15 lines) where the competition is relatively low from the top of the list ( sort by search volume ) and where the match between the keyword and the page web is good .
Here is the final result of our database !! If you work for a client, you can redo this work for all the web pages to optimize and call or make an appointment to validate the keyword to use by web page.

In the case of a website creation , we export the keywords resulting from this process to realize the architecture of your website .
To do this, we use the Visio software to easily make the links between the pages of the website . We also use form data in Visio to obtain a synthetic representation of the website architecture and keywords that the developer will have to integrate into the important areas of the web pages:
